Tyne Valley MTB:
2018 Alpine MTB Tour Alta Rezia
| MTB Alps July 2018 | Davos / Livigno / Santa Caterina / Stelvio Alta Rezia | 7th to 15th July 2018 7 ride days |
In 2005, fours years before Tyne Valley MTB was formed, a group of founder members began the first of our annual MTB tours in the Alps riding unforgettable MTB trails amidst exceptional scenery. By 2009, our annual Alps tours became the Great Alpine Chain MTB Route between Geneva and Salzburg (2015) with a southern finish at Monte Grappa where the Italian Alps end and the Venice plain begins (2016).
The club completed this amazing journey in 2016 and in the process discovered and rode some of the highest quality singletrack anywhere in the world. The club is now revisiting some of very best sections, of which there were many, to find more than a few trails we rode some years back have been improved beyond measure supported by new bike-carrying uplift including mountain railways.
One outstanding region is the Alta Rezia where MTBers can ride a mix of amazing flow trails and XC routes in stunning situations. This particular tour begins with 2 days in Davos in Switzerland before moving to Livigno for 2 days. We then head to Santa Caterina for 2 days with our last night at 3,000m above the Stelvio pass in Italy before returning to Switzerland.
It is no exaggeration to say each of the MTB routes we will ride daily are all outstanding, stunning and thrilling in equal measure. We will descend at least 2,000m per day (sometimes 4,000m) whilst rarely riding the same trail twice. We will descend from 3,000m at least twice and ride close to glaciers.
There will be many highlights on this tour but without doubt it is the magic mix of incredible scenery, magnificent MTB routes and memorable overnights that make all our Alps tours extra special.

The Train Tour Davos / Klosters
Davos / Klosters has a unique MTB offer which combines uplift by mountain railways to access almost 10,000m of total descent. Ideally spread over 2 days, the full tour requires a high level of riding competence and safety awareness in Alpine terrain. The full Train Tour Davos Klosters extends most riders which is why many do not complete the full route on the first visit. Full route completion requires adhering to a pre-planned timetable although shorter days riding fewer trails is easy to facilitate. There are two route variants but using a local guide is highly recommended to get the full value from each day. The two route options are:
Train Tour Davos Klosters: Original route
The original route between Davos and Küblis has gained legendary status and more than a few riders have met their personal limits on it. Distance: 81 km / Height difference: 8,470 m / Height difference ascent: 635 m / Uplift x: 8
New in 2017: Train tour Davos Klosters 100 km
In Davos / Klosters the singletrails are so numerous that a second Train Tour route option has been created. The 100 km Endurotour version differs in a large part from the original route but remains true to the principle - train up and as many singletrack trails down as possible.
Distance: 100 km / Height difference: 8,590 m / Height difference ascent: 710 m / Uplift x 9

With its many flow trails and excellent uplift, Livigno is growing in stature annually as a centre of excellence. This will be the club’s third visit and it gets better every time.
